West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Duke Blue Devils Final 4 Pick

The Duke and West Virginia will face off in what many will perceive to be the National Championship game itself, as the winner will be heavily favored when it slugs it out with a #5 seed in the title game

Both of these teams took incredibly difficult routes to reach the end of the March Madness road.

West Virginia bounced #15 Morgan State 77-50, #10 Missouri 68-59, and #11 Washington 69-56 to set up a showdown with #1 Kentucky on Saturday. Not only did the Mountaineers pass their biggest test of the season, but they passed with flying colors, winning 73-66 to make it to the school’s first Final Four in over 40 years.

The Duke Blue Devils are finally back in the Final 4, and there aren’t many in the business this time of year better than Coach K. The Dookies are also 4-0 SU and ATS in the dance, and they’ve reached this point by taking care of #16 Arkansas-Pine Bluff (73-44), #8 California (68-53), #4 Purdue (70-57), and #3 Baylor (78-71).

The pressure defense of the Mountaineers may be just a bit much for the Dookies to handle. Both of these teams love to kick up the intensity when they’re on the floor, but West Virginia just does it better than Duke does. West Virginia won an NCAA Tournament betting battle between these teams in 2008 73-67, and a similar result should be expected, as the Big East champs move on to the championship game. Grab the points!

- A few betting trends to consider:

West Virginia is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
The total has gone UNDER in 7 of West Virginia’s last 8 games
West Virginia is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
Duke is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Duke’s last 5 games
Duke is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games

Michigan State-Butler Final Four Picks, Odds & Score Prediction

vegas-odds-elite-8

Vegas Experts Final 4 PicksLive Butler vs. MSU Final 4 Odds

March Madness betting only has three games left, but those three games should be incredibly hot and heavy, as the Final Four pits four incredible squads with great story lines against one another in Indianapolis!

Michigan State Spartans vs. Butler Bulldogs Final 4 Pick:

My, what a story this game is! These two teams are the most unlikely entrants into the Final Four since George Mason pulled off the feat.

Michigan State got here by winning a Midwest Bracket that just looked impossible to navigate. But the Spartans didn’t have to do a ton of work to get through to Indianapolis, as #1 Kansas, #2 Ohio State, and #3 Georgetown were all dismissed by other foes. Sparty took care of #12 New Mexico State 70-67, #4 Maryland 85-83, #9 Northern Iowa 59-52, and #6 Tennessee.

On the other hand, the Butler Bulldogs started off with its weakest possible set of contenders at the outset of this tournament, but finished up with a flurry. The West Bracket champions beat #12 UTEP 77-59 and survived #13 Murray State 54-52 to advance into the second week of the tournament, where they went out and did some major damage. Both #1 Syracuse and #2 Kansas State couldn’t figure out the stout Butler ‘D’, as the Horizon League champs knocked those two teams off 63-59 and 63-56 respectively in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 of the dance.

The Spartans are going to need to take advantage of their experience and veteran leadership, even without G Kalin Lucas on the court. No Horizon League team has ever made it to the Final Four, and this could be just a bit much for them. Butler is playing out of its skull, and yes, it owns the nation’s longest winning streak at 24 games.

However, I foresee that streak coming to a close against Michigan State, who will go to its second straight National Championship game in a nail biter. Who would of ever thought MSU would get a chance to erase the memories of the beat down they absorbed in the National Championship game just a short season ago? Not this Jayhawk fan!

- A few betting trends to consider:

Michigan State is 7-1 SU in its last 8 games
Michigan State is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games
Butler is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Butler’s last 6 games
Butler is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games

- Butler vs. Michigan State Final 4 Score Prediction:

Michigan State 64 – Butler 58

Vegas Odds To Win 2010 Final Four

Vegas Experts Final 4 PicksLive Final 4 Odds

There are only four teams left standing in the NCAA Tournament, and there are two clear cut favorites and two decided underdogs that are going to face off with each other before colliding in the National Championship Game next Monday. Check out how the four squads left standing stack up on the NCAA basketball odds.

The Decided FavoriteDuke Blue Devils (+120): At this point, does anyone really want to be the favorite to win it all? In a span of just a few days, all of the biggest favorites in this field have dropped like flies, as first it was Villanova, then it was Kansas, Syracuse, and Kentucky. Now, Coach K’s club seems like a very tenuous favorite at best, as +120 odds don’t exactly scream confidence with just four teams remaining. Duke has done it with defense so far in the dance, but it’s the offense that is going to have to find a way to put together some points against a stout WVU defense to make it to the final, where yet another strong defensive team will surely await.

Playing Second FiddleWest Virginia Mountaineers (+225): The Big East champs probably have some nice value here at a bit over 2-1, but it’s really easy to say that you’ll have the favorite in the title game if the Mountaineers can beat the Dookies. That’s quite the “if” you’re banking on there. This is a hard team to back right now with all of its injuries, as G Darryl Bryant and F Da’Sean Butler are both banged up. Bryant is said to be giving it a go utilizing a shoe that’s believed will shift his weight from the broken toe, while Butler vows to play on Saturday in spite of the fact that he has a laundry list’s worth of nagging ailments. The Mounty’s “Cowboy’d Up” last weekend, but can they do it again away from Big East territory?

The Top Dog? - Butler Bulldogs (+400): We’ve liked Butler’s odds this entire tournament, and now is no exception either. We understand that we’re virtually playing a pick ‘em situation with the Horizon League champs against the Spartans, which insinuates that you’re going to be getting +210 or so against either Duke or West Virginia in the National Championship Game. Odds have it, that just won’t be the case. You’ll probably be able to bet on Butler and scalp back by playing both Michigan State and either Duke or WVU on the money line. Of the four teams left standing, Butler probably has the most playable odds on the board, especially considering this is a team that is riding a huge 24 game winning streak.

The Team We Always ForgetMichigan State Spartans (+450): When are we all going to realize that HC Tom Izzo may be the best in the biz? The future Hall of Famer has coached his Spartans to a sixth Final Four, and in spite of the fact that he only has one title under his belt, he boasts one heck of a resume. The Spartans are the biggest dogs on the board because many think that they ultimately won’t be able to survive the injury to G Kalin Lucas. The more they play without him, the better shape they’re in in terms of repetitions. Just like with Butler, where two games may provide you with a heck of a scalp, you could be in the same situation with MSU.

Final Four TV Schedule, Tip Time, Announcers, Spread

The 2010 Final 4 is set, and CBS could not have asked for a better TV ratings situation. Butler is playing potentially 2 home games and has become the underdog that the whole country is rooting for. Duke and Michigan State are 2 huge college basketball powers with massive amounts of alumni. Finally, West Virginia plays the a little bit of the villain role as head coach Bob Huggins will not win any like-ability contests.

Baylor, Duke, Butler, Michigan State, Tennessee Odds to win Final 4 2010

vegas-odds-elite-8

Expert Elite 8 Bracket PicksLive Elite 8 Odds

Buying into the Big Boys in the Big XII – #3 Baylor Bears (+985): And you thought we were talking about Kansas State, right? We correctly projected that Baylor would dismiss St. Mary’s with ease on Friday night, and that’s exactly what happened. The crowd at the Toyota Center was very much so pro-Baylor, as this is a game played right in the Bears’ backyard. The biggest challenge on the season is on tap when the Blue Devils come a calling, but don’t be overly surprised to see Baylor come out on top with yet another dominant effort from a team that has an immense amount of talent at its disposal.

Run Away! – #1 Duke Blue Devils (+355): Forget about the Dookies. The matchups that they have been handed all season long have made this team incredibly overrated. The key to beating Duke has always been athleticism, and that’s why North Carolina had dominated this team over the years until ’09-’10. Regardless of what happens in the Kentucky/West Virginia game, there are still no less than two incredibly athletic teams waiting in the wings for Coach K’s crew. The Bears have talent like the Blue Devils didn’t see in the ACC this year. Especially considering the fact that this is a de facto road game for Duke, don’t be surprised to see this team fall flat on its face one step away from Indianapolis.

Pot Odds – #6 Tennessee Volunteers (+1200), #5 Butler Bulldogs (+1500), #5 Michigan State Spartans (+1600): Poker players will tell you that pot odds are the key to winning long term at that game. Here, you’re getting tremendous pot odds that the #2 Kansas State Wildcats don’t go to the NCAA Tournament Final. Catching at least 13-1 on both Tennessee and Michigan State seems absurd since one of the two has to be in the Final Four and will clearly be playing against the weakest Final Four foe possible (save itself). A $100 bet on each of these three teams will leave you with essentially, at worst, 4-1 odds on Tennessee to beat both K-State and either Kentucky or Duke in a span of two days. Those odds aren’t great, but you could also just as easily fall into a position where you have approximately +750 on either Butler or Michigan State to win it all as well.

Elite 8 Betting: Duke vs. Baylor & Michigan State vs. Tennessee Predictions

vegas-odds-elite-8

Expert Elite 8 Bracket PicksLive Elite 8 Odds

#6 Tennessee Volunteers vs. #5 Michigan State Spartans

Isn’t this just how you drew up your Elite 8 in a bracket with Kansas, Georgetown, Ohio State, and Maryland involved? It was a rocky road for both the Vols and Spartans, but both are very deserving of their spots in this stage of the tourney. You won’t find a better coaching matchup than Tennessee’s Bruce Pearl and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo. The honeymoon is about to end in East Lansing, though. Missing G Kalin Lucas wasn’t enough to hurt Sparty against Northern Iowa, but this Volunteer team knows how to take advantage of weaknesses. Just ask the depth-troubled Buckeyes how well they fared against this rotation on Friday night. They’ll be signing Rocky Top in Knoxville all night long on Sunday as the Vols party on to the Final Four.

#3 Baylor Bears vs. #1 Duke Blue Devils

This could be the most intriguing of all of the fourth round matchups in the dance. The Bears have one of the most talented teams in the country, and they looked the role in the demolition of #10 St. Mary’s on Friday night. However, the Dookies are just coming together and finding ways to beat teams, whether that requires scoring 80 points or holding them to 60. Coach K’s club is on fire right now, but the matchups that they’ve faced, really dating all the way back to the ACC Tournament, haven’t been tough. The Bears present an entirely different challenge. The athleticism of this team should show, as the Big XII gets its second team represented in the Final Four.

Entering the final three weeks of the NHL’s regular season, the Washington Capitals are poised to finish with the top record in the league heading into the postseason. While the Caps have separated themselves from the pack in the regular season, the club isn’t an overwhelming choice to capture the Stanley Cup.

Favorites To Win Stanley Cup:

The Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks are the co-favorites to capture the NHL title at 4/1 odds. Behind NHL points leader Alex Ovechkin, Washington has a commanding lead atop the Eastern Conference standings heading down the stretch. The franchise lost its only trip to the Stanley Cup finals 12 years ago.

Chicago has a narrow lead atop the Western Conference standings. Patrick Kane leads the club as one of the top 10 scorers in the league. Since its last Stanley Cup title in 1961, the Blackhawks have lost their last five trips to the NHL finals. Chicago’s most recent conference championship was in 1992.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks are the next choices at 5/1 odds. Behind star performer Sidney Crosby, the defending NHL champion Penguins are second in the Eastern Conference standings. In the West, San Jose is just behind Chicago in the standings. Joe Thornton is among the league leaders in assists to pace the Sharks. San Jose has never been to a Stanley Cup final.

Other contenders:

The Vancouver Canucks (10/1) are also in the mix. The club still has a shot at picking up the top seed in the Western Conference. Vancouver’s Henrik Sedin is the top scorer in the conference. Since joining the NHL for the 1970-71 season, the Canucks have reached the Stanley Cup finals twice (1982, 1994) but the franchise is still looking for its first title.

The New Jersey Devils are next at 12/1. The Devils are likely to garner one of the top four seeds in the Eastern Conference. Veteran goalie Martin Brodeur is one of the NHL leaders in wins for the squad. New Jersey has won three Stanley Cup crowns since 1995.

Despite being locked in a battle just to reach the postseason, the Detroit Red Wings (14/1) are still considered a major threat to win another NHL title. Through March 20th, the defending Western Conference champs were only two points ahead of the Calgary Flames for the eighth-seed in the conference race. Detroit has won four NHL crowns since 1997.

The Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings are next at 22/1 odds. Buffalo should be able to lock up one of the top four seeds in the East by the end of the regular season. Ryan Miller has been one of the top goalies in the league to pace the Sabres. Buffalo’s last trip to the NHL finals was in 1999. Los Angeles has only been to the Stanley Cup finals once (1993) in its franchise history. The Kings were tied for fifth in the Western Conference through March 20th. The NHL regular season will conclude on Sunday, April 11th.
