2012 Football Odds: Who Will Lead The NFL In Passing In 2012?

2012 Preseason NFL betting action is finally here! Last season was a banner one for quarterbacks, and today at BetVega, we are going to be looking at the top signal callers that have a shot to lead the league in passing in 2012.

Last season, there were three quarterbacks that threw for over 5,000 yards, and all three of them are amongst the favorites this year. Drew Brees and Tom Brady are the two favorites at +350, and for good reason. Brees is going to be calling the majority of the shots this year for the New Orleans Saints offense, especially knowing that Head Coach Sean Payton is going to have nothing to do with the team due to suspension. Brees now owns the league record with 5,476 passing yards from 2011.

Brady threw for 5,235 yards, and this coming season, he and his New England Patriots might be even more outstanding offensively. Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski made up the best tight end tandem in the league’s history a season ago, and now, Brandon Lloyd is going to make for a deep threat that the offense badly missed throughout 2011-12.

Another threat is the third man that slipped into the 5,000+ yard club, the Detroit Lions’ Matt Stafford. Stafford and Calvin Johnson are arguably the best QB/WR tandem in the league, and if both can stay healthy, they could be set to be the first 2,000/5,000-yard duo in NFL history as well.

The other man at +500 is Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers have already basically conceded their running game once again this year, and that means that Rodgers is probably going to be throwing the ball a whole heck of a lot. The problem that Rodgers has is that his defense can’t be as bad this year as it was in 2011, and if that’s the case, the NFL betting odds are probably going to go against the former Cal Golden Bear.

+1500 Odds To Lead NFL In Passing
A dark horse in this race is Matt Ryan. The Atlanta Falcons now have one of the most formidable tandems in the league at wide out in Roddy White and Julio Jones. White had 100 receptions and 1,296 yards last year, while Jones went for 959 yards and averaged a whopping 17.8 YPC. Remember that the former member of the Alabama Crimson Tide never had a real training camp last year, and now that he has been on the Atlanta roster for a full season, he will have a chance to really bust out. The beneficiary would be Matty Ice though, and as a result, he might be able to at least threaten to throw for 4,500 yards or so, and this year, that might be enough to lead the league in passing. At +1500, this could be the dark horse to back on the NFL betting lines in 2012-13!
