The field of American Idol contestants was reduced to 11 last week after Lacey Brown was voted off after coming up short in Rolling Stones week. Though I felt she would find herself in the bottom three, I was shocked to hear Ryan Seacrest send Tim Urban back to the field after I pegged him as the one to get voted off with a hefty wager. His reggae rendition of “Under My Thumb” was blasphemous, but the American Idol betting voting public sent him back to the pack once again. Both he and Paige Miles look to be this year’s version of Sanjaya Malakar from a couple seasons back. You know, the guy that seemingly sucked each and every week but never got the boot until late in the game.

With the field now down to 11, BetUS Sportsbook has added some new betting options to the American Idol Betting arsenal for this week. We’ll get to those later, but first, we’ll take a look at the scope of the contestants and see where they rank out.

The Female’s odds got shorter to win it all after moving to a -170 favorite at the open this week. Crystal Bowersox and Siobhan Magnus went off the board as the competition favorites last week, and they find themselves at the top once again this week. However, Magnus has now become the overall favorite at -200 with Bowersox right behind her at -180.

As for the guys, Lee Dewyze took the lead jumping from +500 to +150, while Casey James’ odds also got shorter dropping from a +400 to +200 choice.

Also in the running are the ladies’ Didi Benami and the guys’ Michael Lynche. I felt Didi’s “Playing with Fire” take was simply the best performance of the show. Her odds reflect it as well with them getting cut in half from +1200 last week to +600 to win it all going into Tuesday night’s telecast. As for Big Mike, his odds to win it all were more than cut in half; he went off the board at +1000 last week after closing at +2500 the week before. This week, the brand new daddy is a +450 return for his American Idol betting backers.

Those in the back of the standings include Andrew Garcia (+800), Katie Stevens (+800), Aaron Kelly (+1500), Tim Urban (+2500), and Paige Miles (+2500).
The BetUS weekly elimination odds find both Paige Miles and Tim Urban being favored to get the boot at +125. Both were in the bottom three last week. Then there’s Aaron Kelly (+300), Andrew Garcia (+500), Katie Stevens (+500), Did Benami (+550), Michael Lynche (+700), Casey James (+1000), Lee Dewyze (+1200), Crystal Bowersox (+2500), and Siobhan Magnus (+3000).

Blindly wagering before tonight’s show, I would recommend a one unit value bet on Andrew Garcia at 5:1 odds. He simply doesn’t belong here anymore, and I believe he’s running on fumes. Have to see the show to decide who to pair him up with, but Miles, Urban, Stevens, and Lynche are on my red alert watch list.

Brand new for this week are the “Who Will Last Longer” odds. Crystal Bowersox is a -150 favorite to outlast Siobhan Magnus (+110). That makes no sense to me considering Magnus is currently the overall favorite to win the whole thing. Since I feel both of these contestants will be two of the final three standing, I recommend backing Bowersox at -150 to outlast Magnus. Also grab some of her at -180 to win it all. This line alone has opened my eyes up to the fact that Bowersox will more than likely win AI Season 9.

Dewyze is a -150 favorite to last longer than Casey James, which makes sense when comparing to the overall winner odds, but I see value with James at a +110 return. Though he’s coasted the last couple weeks, he just continues to be more comfortable on stage. I won’t lock this one in just yet since I’d like to see a couple more weeks of these guys, but I have James a notch ahead of Dewyze right now.

American Idol betting continues Tuesday night with all 11 contestants duking it out to Billboard #1 hits with help from teenage sensation Miley Cyrus. I’ll be back next week with the show recap and to discuss the American Idol odds openers.

Enjoy the show…
