College Football ATS Standings

College Football ATS Standings, stats, team records against the spread and over-under records for the 2014 college football betting picks season can be found below:

One of the best tools that you’re going to find when you try to make your college football picks is college football ATS standings. These nifty little standings will often tell you not just how teams are doing on their own from a betting standpoint, but how well they are doing within their conferences and whether they are playing games past the ‘total’ or not.

In the NFL, one can usually make a relatively good inference as to whether or not a team is covering the spread. A huge percentage of all NFL SU winners are also ATS winners. In college football though, that’s nowhere near an accurate statement.

In the 2013 season alone, there were a ton of teams which won gobs of games who didn’t end up with winning ATS records. The Louisville Cardinals were 12-1 SU but just 6-7 ATS. The Georgia Bulldogs went 8-5 SU, but they were one of the worst ATS teams in the country at 3-9-1 ATS. The 11-2 Fresno State Bulldogs went 5-8 ATS.

The opposite is also often true for some teams. The 0-12 Georgia State Panthers in 2013 were one of the best cover teams in the country at 8-3-1 ATS. The 6-6 Florida Atlantic Owls were 9-3 against the number. Even the 2-10 Temple Owls were 8-4 ATS.

You can also see how teams stacked up against each other from a ‘total’ perspective. You would think that a team like the 2014 Florida State Seminoles, who won the National Championship, would have been a really good team for ‘overs’. In this case, you’d be right; FSU went 10-4 for ‘over’ backers. However, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, a perpetually high scoring team, went just 5-7-1 for ‘over’ bettors in ’13, while an Eastern Michigan Eagles team which averaged just 18.8 points per game went 10-2 for ‘over’ backers.

Our favorite part of the college football ATS standings though, shows just how good conferences are stacked against each other. This is a particularly useful tool during the bowl season when the teams that are playing against each other didn’t play in the regular season and often times didn’t have any common opponents either.

The top teams in Conference USA in 2013, for example, were all fantastic ATS teams. Of the six teams which played in bowl games out of this conference, all but one of them (Middle Tennessee) had winning ATS records. On the flip side of that though, the bottom of Conference USA was absolutely dreadful, as UTEP, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, FIU, and UAB, who combined to win just 13 games last year, went just 20-52 ATS, numbers you would know if you looked at the college football ATS standings.

You can also compare divisions against each other as well. Take the ACC from 2013, for example. The six teams in the Atlantic Division went 49-41 ATS. The six teams in the Coastal Division went 42-46-3 ATS. Not surprisingly, the Atlantic Division reps from Florida State won the conference title.
