DraftKings NBA Lineup Picks Monday 1/14/13: $5,000 Contest Tonight
It’s slowly getting to that point in the year when it’s just a matter of time when the NBA (and NHL if you swing that way) will be the only game in town. Can’t wait until then, just a heads-up, once NFL fantasy is done, hordes of NFL fantasy players try their luck at NBA (as they don’t play hockey) and all I have to say about that is two things.
One, “‘Will you walk into my parlor?’ said the Spider to the Fly.” And two, Cha-ching!!! There are 8 games presented to us tonight in the NBA and there are plenty of great match-ups and plenty of fantasy action. Here are your Monday plays.
Mike Conley PG Memphis Grizzlies (Pick For Your Free NBA Contest on DraftKings) – Mike enters this game coming off of one of his least attractive games as far as fantasy point production. That might have been a bad thing if we were to have started him Saturday night against the Mavericks, in which he only ended up with 7 points. Seven? Since Sunday Mike’s price has dropped a bit and there’s no way that I’m not taking advantage of this situation. Conley will bounce back in fantasy fashion, he always does. There are roughly a dozen and a half players who I personally take after a bad performance, Mike is on the list and shows he’s over an 87% chance of a successful bounce-back game. The only times that he had not succeeded to achieve this were due to illness / personal issues. Easy game versus the Clippers doesn’t hurt either.
–> Projection: 14 pts / 8 ast / 3 reb / 3 stl
Jared Dudley SG Phoenix Suns (Pick For Your Free NBA Contest on DraftKings) – I would have never of thought that a year ago I’d be saying this but Jared Dudley is the best, I repeat, best player and daily nba lineups option on the Phoenix Suns. No one who is on that team is more reliable on a night-to-night basis in regards to steady fantasy production. Jared will be facing the Thunder tonight and when Dudley faced them earlier in the season he had put up a decent stat line but since that meeting Jered’s point production has doubled. In the last match-up Dudley walked away with only 19 fantasy points (7 points, 2 assists, 8 rebounds, 1 steal) but this time around I’m looking for a surge in production tonight and with that surge I’ll be expecting a double-double due to the fact that this is not the same Dudley who they met a few weeks back on New Year’s Eve.
–> Projection: 17 pts / 4 ast / 11 reb / 2 stl
Rudy Gay SF Memphis Grizzlies (Pick For Your Free NBA Contest on DraftKings) – If you haven’t notice by now then I’ll tell you. If you have noticed over the last few weeks that I have not mentioned Rudy once. Anytime there are trade rumors (which usually kicks in a bad attitude for the one about to be traded) it’s best to avoid such players until they do get traded or the talks dwindle. I’m glad to say that it was announced that Gay will remain a member of the Grizzlies for the rest of this season. Funny thing is, as soon as that news hits the air Rudy starts to produce at a better level. The NBA never ceases to amaze me. With things back to as normal as they were before the talks it’s safe to start Rudy again. Rudy chucked up 25 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds, 1 block and 2 steals, not bad huh? I’m confident enough due to his turnaround, to start Rudy in 90% of my line-ups (especially head-to-head match-ups).
–> Projection: 22 pts / 6 ast / 5 reb / 2 blk / 1 stl
Dirk Nowitzki PF Dallas Mavericks (Pick For Your Free NBA Contest on DraftKings) – Not much to analyze here other than it’s Dirk , he’s back, healthy and seems to have not lost a step. I believe the most significant point here is due to the fact that his price tag has yet to reach his value. It doesn’t get any better than that.In his last 5 starts Dirk has been productive and reliable (as always) averaging 18 points, 3.5 assists, 6.5 rebounds, 0.5 block and 0.5 steal with his playing time being logged in at an average of 33.5 minutes per start. Like you need your arm twisted to start him? Just do it and don’t think about it..
–> Projection: 19 pts / 3 ast / 7 reb / 1 blk / 1 stl
Nikola Vucevic C Orlando Magic (Pick For Your Free NBA Contest on DraftKings) – You may have noticed both Nikola’s (once again) as your value-plays. As I stated over a week ago, as long as player is exceeding his value or just maintaining it there is no reason to not to start that player. In other words, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. He’ll be facing the scourge of the NBA tonight, the Washington Wizards and not unlike our play above with Dudley, in regards to Niks production escalating since that last meeting with the Wizards. In the two games that Nik has played against Washington this year he has only averaged out 8 points, 1.5 assists, 12 rebounds and 1 steal all while logging in an average of 34.5 minutes. I truly believe that Vucevic will respond in tonights game with a double-double, this I’m sure of as Nik has 6 DD’s in a row and will be going for his 7th tonight, which by the way he’ll get. Easily. Note: Okafor will be on him tonight…make that very easily.
–> Projection: 27 pts / 1 ast / 18 reb / 2 blk / 1 stl
