Eagles-Chiefs Odds, Picks, Score Prediction Thursday Week 3
The schedule makers in the NFL had a tremendously good sense of humor when they scheduled the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in the City of Brotherly Love. Head Coach Andy Reid, now in charge in KC, is going to be making his return to the city that he brought to a Super Bowl and where he was once the longest tenured coach in the league.
Reid’s Eagles are going to be favored by a field goal (-3) in this one, while the ‘total’, as expected, is very high at 50.5.
OPEN: EAGLES -5 | CURRENT: EAGLES -3 | O/U: 51
1. Why the EAGLES will cover the spread: The Eagles need to get back to playing Eagles football, and that means putting the ball in the hands of RB LeSean McCoy more often. The team only ran 59 plays in Week 2, and that’s just not fast enough, especially when you consider the fact that only 20 of those plays were on the ground. Getting the ball deep to WR DeSean Jackson to the tune of almost 150 yards per game is great, but the truth of the matter is that the bread and butter is running the football, and if Philly doesn’t do that, it is going to be beaten by a respectable team.
2. Why the CHIEFS will cover the spread: The Chiefs are looking the part of a playoff team this season through two games. Their defense has allowed a grand total of just one touchdown, and the club ranks second in the league on the ground at 54.0 yards per game. KC will cover this one if it can figure out how to slow down the Eagles offensively. Then again, that’s basically what everyone else has been saying this year as well, and so far, no one has been able to do it.
3. Total Talk: It’s not surprising that the Eagles have played both of their first two games beyond the number this year. They have scored at least 30 in both games and have allowed at least 27 in both games, so something is going to have to give if this one isn’t to get to the number. On the flip side of things, the Chiefs have only played games to 30 and 33 points this year, and neither one even remotely got close to the ‘total’.
4. Betting Trends for EAGLES/CHIEFS: You have to go all the way back to 1998 to find the last time the Chiefs won a game in this series, and you have to go back to 1992 to find their last cover. Since that point, they are 1-3 SU and 0-4 ATS, including getting beaten by six and by 13 in the two games here in the City of Brotherly Love, both of which came with Reid as the man in charge of the Eagles. KC is already 1-0 SU and ATS against the NFC East this year. Philadelphia is already 0-1 SU and 0-1 ATS against the AFC West this year.
