Heisman Trophy Odds 2013: Manziel & McCarron Top Favorites
Last season, QB Johnny Manziel came out of nowhere to win the Heisman Trophy. Today, we’re going to take a first look at the Heisman Trophy odds for the 2013 season, where we will highlight some of the favorites and the best bets you can make for the award.
Johnny Manziel (4/1 odds) – This is Johnny’s World that we’re just living in. Truthfully, there is no reason to think after a year in which he had 30+ TDs through the air and 20+ TDs on the ground that “Johnny Football” isn’t going to win the Heisman once again. However, we all said that about a sophomore who had just won the award named QB Tim Tebow, too. Remember that only one man has ever won the Heisman Trophy twice before, and Manziel still has to contend with the SEC this season. This is the second look that this conference is going to get at Manziel, and former OC Kliff Kingsbury is now gone.
AJ McCarron (10/1 odds) – There isn’t a heck of a lot that McCarron hasn’t done thus far in his career with the Crimson Tide. He’s got a pair of National Championships, and thanks to Brent Musberger, we all know that he is dating Miss Alabama, the newest “it” girl on the planet. However, McCarron doesn’t have a Heisman yet to his credit, and he is going to be the undisputed leader of the Crimson Tide team in 2013. The Tide are going to be great for sure, and that is going to at least keep McCarron in the mix. The question is whether the Heisman voters are going to see all of this and make him a candidate for the award, or whether they will just dismiss him as a game manager and not a playmaker.
Jadeveon Clowney (12/1 odds) – Clowney (assuming that he plays this year) wants to become the first legitimate defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy. You going to argue with him? If you are, we suggest that you go back and look at tape of his game against the Clemson Tigers, when he literally blew up the entire Clemson offense all by himself with 4.5 sacks and a number of tackles for loss. This is the best defensive player in the land and is almost certainly a Top 5 pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
Blake Bell (33/1 odds) – Bell is a longshot for sure, but we know that he is going to put up some interesting numbers this year. He’s known as the Belldozer, and he is going to have probably at least 15-20 rushing touchdowns, if not more for the Sooners. The question is whether he can really throw the pigskin or not. If he can, Bell has the potential to throw for 4,000 yards and have 40, maybe even 50 total touchdowns in Head Coach Bob Stoops’ system. If those are the numbers that he is going to put up this year, Bell is going to be a Heisman frontrunner that you can get at a great price with right now!
