Odds to win 2011 Super Bowl

With only ten wins over the last three years, the Chiefs are set to have a top five draft choice for the third straight season. In the last two drafts, Kansas City has chosen a pair of LSU defensive linemen. In 2008, the club tabbed defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey with the fifth overall pick. Last year, the Chiefs selected defensive end Tyson Jackson with the third overall choice.

While Kansas City waits for the two former Tigers stars to become impact players along the front line, the organization is likely to focus in a different position area with the fifth overall pick of the 2010 draft. The Chiefs will have three of the top 50 choices in the draft. The club has Atlanta’s draft pick in the second round as part of the Tony Gonzalez trade. Through other deals, Kansas City will have three picks in the fifth round but no choices in the final two rounds of the draft.

KC Chiefs 2010 NFL Draft Wide receiver & Tight End Needs

After ranking 25th in the NFL in total and passing offense in 2009, Kansas City will try to bring in some more weapons for quarterback Matt Cassel to work with. While finding someone to play at a Hall of Fame level, like Gonzalez, isn’t likely to happen, the club has some solid tight end options to evaluate in this year’s draft. With one of the second round picks, Kansas City could go with Rob Gronkowski of Arizona or Aaron Hernandez of Florida. In the middle rounds, the Chiefs would like to add another receiver to compliment 2007 top choice Dwayne Bowe and the club’s other veteran wideouts.

KC Chiefs 2010 NFL Draft Offensive Line Needs

In the last decade, the Chiefs used only one of its early round (third or higher) choices on an offensive lineman. Two years ago, tackle Branden Albert was the 15th overall pick in the draft by Kansas City. However, he has struggled in his two pro seasons. The team’s inability to address this area in other drafts has also played a role in the overall problems and inconsistencies along the line. With its first round choice in 2010, Kansas City could select another tackle. Russell Okung of Oklahoma State and Anthony Davis of Rutgers are two strong options for the Chiefs to consider.

KC Chiefs 2010 NFL Draft Secondary Needs

After ranking 30th in the NFL in total defense in 2009, Kansas City will seek to improve in 2010 under new coordinator Romeo Crennel. The former Browns head coach could get some new personnel to work with in the early rounds. Since the club has used a pair of high picks on the defensive line in the last two drafts, the organization could use its top choice to help the secondary this time around. Tennessee safety Eric Berry is a unique talent at the position. If the Chiefs wait until the second round to go with a defensive performer, cornerback Perrish Cox of Oklahoma State could be a nice fit with one of the second round choices.
