Every season, there are double digit seeds that come out of seemingly nowhere to pull an upset in the first round against a team that you may have had going deep into your bracket. Here are some March Madness betting tips for teams that can blow up your bracket on one of the first two days of the tournament that you should steer clear from at all costs.
#13 Siena Saints (vs. Purdue Boilermakers):
Those of us in the betting world realize that Siena knocking off Purdue wouldn’t be some upset of epic proportions, as the Metro Atlantic champs are only 3.5-point underdogs. However, any time a #13 knocks off a #4, it’s noteworthy. Siena is experienced and deep, and its starting five is as talented as most it might right into. Especially with the Boilers playing without F Robbie Hummel, they’re primed for an upset early in this tournament. (Bet Siena vs. Purdue Now)
#13 Wofford Terriers (vs. Wisconsin Badgers):
If you like defense, you’re going to love this little mini-bracket in Jacksonville with Wisconsin, Wofford, Cornell, and Temple. Everyone is keying in on the Ivy League champs for the big upset in this bracket, but what about Wofford? The Terriers rank 30th in defense in the country at 61.2 points per game allowed, and they play in a relatively strong SoCon. This is a team that beat South Carolina SU this year, and pushed Pitt to the brink, losing by three in the first week of the season. Wofford can ball, and if Wisky isn’t careful, it will see itself leaving the dance early. (Bet Wofford vs. Wisconsin Now)
#12 UTEP Miners (vs. Butler Bulldogs):
It feels like we’re talking about Butler being the team that can be pulling the upsets year in and year out, not the subject of one. However, G Randy Culpepper and the Miners are becoming a trendy pick to sneak into the Sweet 16 for good reason. This is a team that is probably badly underseeded after losing in the C-USA Tournament finale to Houston. There’s a reason that it stormed through a respectable conference without any issues to that point. F Derrick Caracter can give the Dawgs fits on the inside as well, as he is a Louisville transfer that is just built for March Madness. This fits the bill of a perfect matchup. #12 Utah State Aggies (vs. Texas A&M Aggies):
Here’s a very similar situation that Utah State is in. The Aggies are probably seeded two to three slots lower than they should’ve been thanks to their loss to New Mexico State in the WAC Championship Game. This is a team that really ran through its schedule without any problems this year, including a 10-point win over BYU in December. USU was just running its opponents out of the gym until running up against the Aggies, having won four straight games by at least 18 points. Texas A&M had better look out. A lot of people think the these Aggies could make a big run in the NCAA Tournament… But in order to beat the March Madness betting odds from that respect, it’s going to take holding serve against a solid WAC club. Who does everyone have in their brackets this year to make it to the final four? WIth so many changes through-out the Top 10, Top 25 and even the #1 seed in the nation anything is possible.. I can’t wait for the madness to begin!!! So pumped!!
My Final Four :
Kansas
Pittsburgh
Kentucky
Villanova
____________
KANSAS winning it all..
So who do you have? Who is your final four? Weigh in below…
You have suggested we take four underdogs. I dont think any of them will cover the spread………..You would have to be nuts to take these four teams as you suggested.
Don,
That is why they are called UPSETS!!!!!!!
It is not an upset if a favorite wins the game.
Gotta love Joe Q public bettor…..I am all 4 of these picks to cover the spread and took all 4 in my brackets to pull the outright upset as well.
There is absolutely NO WAY PITT will make the final four. I know this may be the year of the upsets but not a chance for pitt to come out of there from Cuse and K-State. Theyll lose in the 2nd round if not the first by Oakland. My final four right now is Kansas, Cuse, WVU, and Baylor with WVU taking home the title. I also have texas beating kentucky which could happen if texas can pull it together.
I put my final four as Kansas, Syracuse, Kentucky, and Villanova. Kentucky and Kansas going on into the final two, and KANSAS winning it all. This website has definitely changed my mind and I am now rethinking these four possibilities. I had them all as not upsets… but now I think I will have to change a couple. Which should I change?
I have kentucky duke kansas and syracuse with kentucky and john wall winning it all against kansas
I got utep with the upset but thats the only one i see happening..utep is a strong team i also got them winning in the second round..my final 4 K-State, villanova, kansas, and kentucky…even thou uk could very easily loose in the second round..ide also watch out for san diego state over tennessee as well.. even though thats not so much an upset..
