The National League appears to be the more wide open league of the two in this upcoming baseball betting season. Take a look at our best five season win totals that MLB wagering fanatics should be set to dig into during Spring Training!
Los Angeles Dodgers over 84.5 wins (-115): Save losing SP Randy Wolf, there really isn’t a heck of a lot that has changed from this version of the Dodgers from the one that won 95 games last season and went 50-31 at home. There’s a lot of drama surrounding LF Manny Ramirez, but if there’s a man that can hush drama in a heartbeat and work a winner around it, it’s Manager Joe Torre. Getting to 85 wins may not lock up the NL West pennant, but it will be enough to cash a winning futures ticket for Dodgers betting aficionados.
Pittsburgh Pirates under 69.5 wins (-115): It’s easy to say that the Pirates are the worst team in baseball, but they probably are. Reaching 70 wins seems like an impossible task, especially knowing that anyone that has a good first half of the season is most likely being traded at the deadline for even more prospects. The Pirates went 62-99 a year ago, and unless there is some talent that is just going to jolt this team to a new level, it seems awfully unlikely that this is any more than a 65 win team once again.
Houston Astros under 74.5 wins (-115): Save for playing 19 games against the Pirates, the Astros are going to be in a heap of trouble this year, especially if they don’t get another great season out of SP Wandy Rodriguez. This was a slumping team down the stretch in the 2009 MLB gambling campaign, and when you factor in how unhappy that 1B Lance Berkman and LF Carlos Lee must be with the rest of this team surrounding them, trades are inevitable. Once that happens, this could be a team that rivals Pittsburgh for the NL Central gutter.

San Francisco Giants under 82.5 wins (-115): If the Diamondbacks are really an improved team and the Rockies don’t take a step back from their Wild Card run of a year ago, seeing the Giants finish above .500 is going to be hard. San Fran felt like it was a two-man army a year ago in SPs Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum. If either one suffers an injury or is off of his game, this offense just isn’t good enough to put the team on its back. The Giants stumbled down the stretch just a tad, and if they can’t get some positive mojo going early in the season, finishing with 83 wins just won’t happen.
Chicago Cubs over 83.5 wins (-105): Let’s remember for one second that the Cubbies got to 83 wins a year ago in just 161 games. Is this really a worse team this year than it was last year? We think not. OF Alfonso Soriano just has to have a better season than he did in ’09, and if the injury bug stays away, he’ll lead an absolutely lethal lineup. SP Carlos Zambrano will be looking for a rebound as well, or he may be shipped out of town. This is the only team that can threaten St. Louis in the NL Central, and it’ll require at least in the mid-80s of wins to happen. Look for the Northsiders to get there.
