BRONCOS – RAIDERS 2013 MONDAY NIGHT BETTING ODDS:
OPEN: Denver -14.5 | CURRENT: Denver -16 | O/U: 49.5
1. Why Denver will cover the spread: Because the Broncos are probably the best team in all of football! Denver totally dominated the last two Super Bowl winners (the NY Giants and Baltimore Ravens) in its first two games and that’s without its best defensive player Von Miller. Tight end is the one thing the Denver offense was missing last year and Julius Thomas has been just what the doctor ordered through two games. The Broncos already had possibly the best trio of receivers in the league, between Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas, and Eric Decker and adding Thomas makes that trio even more potent. Julius Thomas has 11 receptions for 157 yards and three touchdowns on the season, and if he continues to develop, the Broncos offense may be one of the best we’ve ever seen.
2. Why Oakland will cover the spread: The Raiders have showed signs of life with Terrelle Pryor that few thought existed with this team. Pryor led the Raiders to almost knock off the heavily favored Colts in Week 1 and dominated the Jaguars in a game that was much more of a blowout than the score indicated in Week 2. Oakland ran the ball for 6.6 yards per carry against the Jaguars and Darren McFadden looked rejuvenated rushing for 129 yards. The Raiders will need to do better making the most of their chances, settling for three field goals inside the Jaguars’ 15 yard line. Oakland also has one of the top ten defenses in the league, holding opponents to just 261 total yards through two games.
3. Total Talk: The ‘Under’ is 8-1 in Oakland’s last nine games across the past two seasons and 6-1 against the last seven AFC teams it’s run up against; the ‘Under’ is also 5-1 in Oakland’s last six games against AFC West opponents. ‘Under’ is 6-2-1 in the Broncos last nine games against divisional opponents but the Broncos have been an ‘Over’ team so far this season with both games flying over the closing number
4. Betting Trends for Broncos/Raiders: The Raiders are 13-6 in their last nineteen inter-division games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games against conference opponents. Denver is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against AFC West teams and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. Head to head, the Raiders are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against Denver in Mile High Stadium and the ‘Over’ is 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings overall.
