Brett Favre’s return to Green Bay was among the notable events from week 8’s NFL slate. Here are some highlights from last Sunday’s action:

Favre a winner in return to Lambeau

It was a surreal scene last Sunday in Green Bay. Legendary Packers quarterback Brett Favre was once again on the grass at Lambeau Field for the first time since the 2007 NFC Championship Game. However, he wasn’t wearing his familiar green jersey on Sunday. In the dreaded purple of heated rival Minnesota, Favre and his new Vikings teammates rolled to a 38-26 victory over the Packers. Green Bay opened as a 3-point favorite in the game before closing as a 3.5-point choice by kickoff.

Broncos finally go down

After a magical 6-0 start, the Denver Broncos were finally brought back to earth at Baltimore last week. The Ravens cruised to a 30-7 win in the contest as a 4.5-point favorite. Despite their record, Denver has been favored only twice this season. The Broncos are an underdog again this week for a Monday night battle against the defending champion Steelers.

Rams, Titans record wins

After weeks of frustration, the St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans were finally able to enjoy a pleasant Sunday afternoon. The Rams ended their 17-game losing streak with a 17-10 victory at Detroit. The Lions were a 3.5-point favorite in the game. Tennessee improved to 1-6 with a 30-13 win at home over Jacksonville as a 3-point favorite. The Titans had the best record in the league a year ago at 13-3. Tampa Bay is now the last remaining winless team in the league. The Bucs will be solid underdogs in each of their remaining nine matchups.

Giants slump continues

The New York Giants entered last Sunday’s battle at Philadelphia in first place in the NFC East. By the end of the day, New York was in third place in the divisional race after suffering a third straight setback. The Eagles jumped out quickly in their 40-17 win over the Giants. Philly put two touchdowns on the board in the first four minutes of the game. It appeared that New York was going to make a comeback after getting on the board with 1:54 to play in the first half. However, the Eagles responded with a pair of quick touchdowns before halftime to take a commanding 23-point lead into intermission. There was plenty of support for the Giants. New York closed as a 1-point favorite in the game after Philadelphia had opened as a 3-point favorite.

More blowouts

For the second week in a row, there were plenty of mismatches on the NFL schedule. In week 7, 11 of the 13 games were decided by double-digits. On last Sunday’s week 8 slate, eight teams were able to win by at least ten points. The Ravens, Bears, Texans, Cowboys and Eagles all won by three touchdowns or more. Despite the lack of close games, underdogs were able to post a 7-5 record against the spread last Sunday.
