The top nine players are all quarterbacks, with the two top teams in college football’s starting quarterbacks leading the way.
Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence are both 3/1 to win the Heisman Trophy. Since open, Tua has remained the same and Lawrence has dropped ever-so-slightly from 5/2. The other notable QBs in the top 10 are:
- Jalen Hurts (OU) 12/1
- Justin Fields (OSU) 12/1
- Jake Fromm (UGA) 18/1
- Justin Herbert (ORE) 20/1
- Sam Ehlinger (TEX) 20/1
Hurts and Fields are recent transfers from Alabama and Georgia, joining their former teammates (Tua and Fromm) in the top 10 for the Heisman race. Expect to see at least three of the above seven quarterbacks in the NFL next year.
Heisman Stock Heading Up
These four quarterbacks have seen their odds increase.
- Jake Fromm, UGA (40/1 to 18/1)
- Sam Ehlinger, TEX (40/1 to 20/1)
- Khalil Tate, ARI (100/1 to 40/1)
- Joe Burrow, LSU (200/1 to 40/1)
Heisman Stock Going Down
- Adrian Martinez, NEB (6/1 to 10/1)
- Justin Fields, OSU (6/1 to 12/1)
- Jalen Hurts, OU (6/1 to 12/1)
While unlikely (just three skill players have won the Heisman since 2000), skill position players are in the odds to win the Heisman as well. Here are the tops in terms of odds to win the Heisman:
- Jonathan Taylor (WISC) 25/1
- Travis Etienne (CLEM) 40/1
- D’Andre Swift (UGA) 40/1
- Rondale Moore (PUR) 40/1
- AJ Dillon (BC) 50/1
Kyler Murray won last year’s Heisman after being 30/1 at opening, Baker Mayfield won the 2017 Heisman Trophy after starting at 10/1 odds, and Lamar Jackson won in 2016 after starting at 100-1. The last skill position player to win was Derrick Henry in 2015, who started at 25/1 odds.
Stay tuned as we will update the Heisman race throughout the college football season!
