The Los Angeles Lakers finally acquired Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans after a failed attempt earlier this year. While they has to trade Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks, the Lakers are favored to win the NBA Championship in 2020.

If you’ll notice by looking at that trade, you’ll see that the Lakers managed to hold on to Kyle Kuzma as well. Another caveat with this trade is if they decide to hold off on making it “official” until late July, the Lakers will have enough cap space to offer a max deal to someone else to further bolster a roster that is fairly shallow outside of James, Kuzma and Davis.

Imagine if the Lakers offer a max deal to someone like Kevin Durant, even with him needing to sit out a year? Maybe they offer it to Kyrie Irving and reunite him with James? Perhaps they bring in Kemba Walker? Maybe they bring James’ friend Carmelo Anthony in on a veteran deal?

Some thoughts on the early win totals:

1. New York Knicks (28.5 wins): While they may have a handshake agreement in place with Durant, he’s still out for most, if not the entire season. This team won a mere 17 games in 2018/19. Without Durant, there’s no way they sniff nearly 30 wins, even with a top-three draft pick.

2. Dallas Mavericks (41.5 wins): This should be higher. They have two stud players in Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic and have tons of cap space.

3. Houston Rockets (53.5 wins): With Chris Paul reportedly wanting out of Houston and winning 52 games this past season, this could be a tad aggressive, but it depends on how they respond to Paul wanting out.

Odds To Win NBA Title 2020

At the end of the day, it’s safe to give the Lakers the top odds. There are many situations, but a team, on the surface, of James, Davis and Kuzma is going to be a tough out.

DraftKings Sportsbook over-under win total for the Lakers is also set wins at 54.5 wins. The Milwaukee Bucks are also listed at 55.5 wins on DraftKings.

In the past, teams win totals for the next NBA season didn’t come until late July, but with sports betting being legal in many states now, things have definitely changed. With betting on the NBA Draft, these totals will definitely change, but as of right now, the Lakers are the favorites to win NBA the 2020 title at +390 on FanDuel Sportsbook and +350 on DraftKings.
